TV, Audio and media storage cabinets provide a safe and attractive way to organise and display your home theatre system and your collections of music, film and video games. There are many styles, materials and features which means any taste, home decoration and budget can be catered for.

Take a quick inventory of the equipment you already own. If your home theater consists of an audio/video receiver, DVD or Blu-Ray player and a widescreen TV , you may only need a wooden TV stand with a two-shelf storage unit underneath.

To overcome the problem of a bird’s nest of cables and leads cluttering up the room then you could consider an audio component rack next to the main TV stand as the ideal option. and so if you consider storage cabinets with plenty of additional space than you’ll have enough space to expand your system later on if needed.

Look for audio storage cabinets that come with glass or wooden doors or some other type of cover for the components inside. Its important that the components have plenty of protection, so look for wood, perspex or glass doors.Glass doors allow you to display your equipment . Alternatively if you want a more traditional feel then a solid wood TV cabinet will store everything away whilst providing the look of a fine item of furniture.

Either way it is very important to have a unit with doors to protect the equipment from the dust attracted by the static electricity generated by the audio/TV components.Good ventilation is key as the electronic components can get hot and you’ll need holes at the back of the unit to route the necessary cables appropriately.

When you choose a storage unit think a little about what your future storage needs might be.  If you think you will require more space over time then modular systems might be best.

Be aware that if you plan to increase your collection substantially, the brand and style of cabinet you buy today may not be available next year. So if your 200 strong oak DVD cabinet fills up, you may not be able to find another wooden furniture matching cabinet to go with it later. You’ll be left with the choice of either mismatched storage cabinets or buying a new, larger cabinet.

Look at storage units with adjustable shelving. CDs and DVD and Blu-ray cases are all different heights when arranged on a shelf like books.
